How a WhatsApp chatbot takes restaurant orders without an app
Customers already have WhatsApp open. Here is the exact flow we build for restaurants, from the first hello to a paid order.
Every restaurant owner asks the same question: why would a customer use a chatbot instead of calling?
The honest answer is that they would not, if the bot is slower than a phone call. So the whole design goal is speed to a confirmed order.
The flow that works
Welcome, language, category, product, portion, quantity, cart, payment, confirmation. Nine steps, and every one of them is a tap rather than typing. A first-time customer gets from hello to paid in under a minute.
Where orders actually leak
In the data we see across restaurant deployments, the drop is never at the menu. It is between cart and payment. People add three biryanis, see the total, and go quiet.
Two things recover most of that: showing delivery charges before the cart, not after, and an abandoned-cart follow-up thirty minutes later. The follow-up alone recovers a meaningful share of otherwise-dead carts.
What to skip
Do not build a free-text ordering bot. Customers write "1 mutton biryani half no raita extra brinjal" and any parser you write will get it wrong often enough to cost you the order. Buttons and lists are boring and they work.
